New Horizons

In 2026, Trident Freight marked its 35th anniversary by launching a new stage of development, guided by fresh ideas and ambitious goals in a rapidly changing business environment. 

We face new logistics challenges with renewed energy, relying on a portfolio of completed projects and long-term partnerships. The focus today is on expanding service quality, flexibility and value-added solutions for regional and international supply chains.

Milestones and growth

1991–1999: Foundation and first bonded warehouse

  • 1991 – Trident Freight is founded in Varna as one of the first private logistics and forwarding companies in Bulgaria, entering a market that was opening after the transition period.​

  • 1993 – The company establishes its first bonded warehouse in Varna, initially specialising in the distribution of bottled olive oil under customs control, which gives Trident early experience with bonded regimes and value‑added distribution.​

  • The company carried agency agreements with BULCON for container services. BULCON is a shipping company established in 1892 and the biggest state-owned shipping company with over a century of tradition and experience in the shipping industry. 

  • Initiated memberships with the Association of the Bulgarian Forwarders, FIATA, and was a founding member of the Regional Association of Shipbrokers and Agents – Varna

  • 1997 - appointment as a ship agent for Daewoo

  • Throughout the 1990s, Trident Freight consolidated its position as a local forwarder, building relationships with carriers and developing basic transport and customs services.

2000–2005: Moving into liner agency and network growth

  • 2001 – Trident establishes the daughter company THREE STARS Ltd., appointed as agent for a container carrier (ZIM Line) for the territory of Bulgaria, marking its entry into regular liner shipping representation.​

  • 2002 – A new truck composition dedicated to hanging garments is added to the fleet, allowing the company to serve fashion and textile supply chains with specialised equipment.​

  • 2003 – Trident is appointed commercial agent for SNTG – Stolt Tank Container Division, stepping into the tank container segment and broadening its liquid logistics offering.​

  • 2005 – A branch office is opened in Burgas, extending physical presence to the southern Bulgarian Black Sea port and improving national coverage.

  • Becoming the second Bulgarian freight forwarding company to be certified by Quality Management System DIN EN ISO 9001 by Germanischer Lloyd Certification GmbH.

2007–2015: Ferry agency, first warehouse phase and food certification

  • 2007 - growing company network with two new branch offices in Varna and in Port Warna West Terminal

  • 2009 – The ferryboat line Varna–Kavkaz was officially launched, and Trident Freight is nominated agent for the ferry vessels m/v Avangard and m/v Slavyanin, adding ro‑ro and ferry representation to its portfolio.​

  • 2014 – The first stage of the warehouse project at the Trident base is completed, with two warehouses built totalling 4,600 sq m, providing modern covered storage capacity near the principal transport axes around Varna.​

  • 2013 - Nomination for liner agency of COSCO Container Lines Ltd. as a dedicated agent for Bulgaria.​

  • Awarded for Exporter of the Year Award for Dynamics of Export Development by Exported.bg

  • 2015 – Trident receives certification from the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency for storage and handling of grain, feed and foodstuffs of non‑animal origin, and during that year handles and exports about 12,000 metric tons of grain and pulses in containers.

2016–2020: Depot, bonded capacity and semi‑closed area

  • 2016 – A container depot is constructed on an area of 18,000 sq m with capacity for more than 1,500 TEU, equipped with Svetruck and Kalmar front loaders, positioning Trident as a depot and container handling operator in the Varna–Devnya zone.​

  • 2017 – The company opens its first own bonded warehouse of 1,250 sq m, strengthening its customs‑controlled storage offer and enabling more complex transit and import/export solutions.​

  • 2019 – A semi‑closed warehouse area of 2,800 sq m is added to the Trident Freight base, increasing the total warehousing footprint and providing flexible, covered space for cargo handling and storage close to Port Varna West.​

  • 2020 – The bonded warehouse capacity is expanded to 4,050 sq m, consolidating Trident’s role as a primary bonded warehousing provider supporting containerised, palletised and project cargo flows.

2021 and beyond: 35th anniversary and modernization

  • 2021 – Trident Freight celebrates its 30th anniversary under the theme of “new horizons,” highlighting strategic investments in its modern warehouse infrastructure and base near Varna.​

  • Around this period, the company undertakes a rebranding and communication refresh to reflect its expanded services in forwarding, agency, warehousing, bonded storage and depot operations, with a focus on meeting new logistics challenges in a fast‑changing environment.

  • 2026 - another milestone is reached with the 35th company anniversary. Celebrating years of logistic expertise coming from flexible and sustainable decisions.
